Matter

What is Matter?

-Matter is anything that takes up space (volume) and has mass. Matter can be broken into different sections:

Elements:

-Some elements are paired in twos. They are known as Diatomics.

                                    e.g.: I2, H2, N2, Br2, O2, Cl2, F2

-An easy way to remember these is to remember this phrase:

They are still considered elements and not compounds because they are still only one type of atom. A Compound must be two or more different types of atoms.
